BUDGET PLANNER PRO
What does it do?
It is primarily a budgeting tool, which relates crop
acreages and stock numbers with their projected
yields and prices and links these to the physical
inputs and their costs. Any combination of cropping
or stocking can be tested to see the answers to the
“what if” question. Gross Margins are calculated for
each enterprise and following deduction of the
overhead (or fixed) costs the net profit is
determined. Secondly, the budget can be progressed
into a Cash Flow Forecast and being fully integrated
all the figures will update after any changes are
made. Cross checks ensure that no errors or
omissions occur. It is the ideal tool for farm
appraisals and business plans.
Is it complicated?
No. The prime aim has been to produce a very simple
yet powerful program. You can prepare a Budget for a
new farm or do a rent assessment for an existing
client in about 10 minutes using basic farm
information and possibly industry standards (eg John
Nix, ABC Costings) or you can spend an hour or two
entering inputs and outputs in detail eg. fertilizer
quantities, individual sales to merchants etc. and
produce both a Budget and 12 month Cash Flow
forecast.
What are the restrictions?
Virtually none. You can do any number of years and
as many versions for one client as you wish – and
store them all. Even better, there is no limit to
the number of businesses you can put onto to the
program – unlike so much other software where extra
charges are involved.
Doesn’t an accounting or crop program do all this?
No. This is a completely different package, which is
designed solely to look forward and to incorporate
all aspects of the business including non-farm and
capital items.
Can’t I just use a spreadsheet?
Possibly, but to a very limited extent. This program
is a far better way of budgeting and cash flow
forecasting, with various levels of working, clearly
printed reports and retrieval of all the basic data
so there is no need for handwritten notes. Anyone in
your office can use the system at any time.
